Whether for a privacy concerns reason or for the purpose of getting access to the US Netflix, VPN is likely a service consider using. Or already use but looking for something more satisfying. We are here to help you to sort out which one is worth your attention.

Today we are reviewing KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, the one advertised as a multi-platform solution with 10-million users worldwide. They have just launched a new update, featuring new app design. Let’s take a closer look at it.

KeepSolid VPN Interface

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is available on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, Linux and has extensions for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. We tested the app on iPhone, Windows and quickly checked the Google Chrome extension.

The app looks sleek, and the UI is pretty intuitive. The only thing we’d change – enlarged fonts.

It starts with sign in screen. A quick tutorial after the first logging will show up. Then you’ll see a map with your real IP, dots, which are servers, and the Connect button. A server can be chosen on this screen or from the menu. If you are up for streaming content, you’ll have to navigate to the menu and connect to one of the streaming servers. They cannot be selected on the map. This might confuse you a bit. As connecting to a regular US server won’t let you watch Hulu or BBC iPlayer.

In the menu you can also change protocols. They vary depending on the platform, and can influence the speed. We recommend trying a few options and going with the one that suits your needs best.

VPN Unlimited Protocols

vpn unlimited protocols

Talking about protocols – KeepSolid VPN Unlimited offers a plenty. On Windows you can opt in for OpenVPN, TCP/UDP, IKEv2 or their custom protocol, KeepSolid Wise. For iPhone they offer IPSec, OpenVPN, TCP/UDP, IKEv2, and KeepSolid Wise. Google Chrome extension employees TLS encryption. You can check options for other devices here.

KeepSolid Wise is a protocol that masks VPN traffic so that it looks like a normal HTTPS traffic. Thus it’s difficult to detect and suits best for countries, where the VPN use is banned. During our tests it slowed down the Internet a bit comparing to IKEv2 so we don’t recommend using it too often.

AES-128 and AES-256 encryption standards the app utilizes, ensure your incoming and outgoing traffic is chiphered and safe.

KeepSolid VPN Privacy

KeepSolid like a ExpressVPN operates under the USA jurisdiction, which often causes doubts. However, they claim there is nothing to reveal if a query arrives as they do not keep logs.

In their Privacy Policy they say some data, like email address, IP, device information, is being collected. Also, it is stated you can limit your sharing and KeepSolid use of your personal data when it is based on your consent. For more details you might want to carefully examine the document.

VPN UnlimitedServers

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited has a broad network of servers in 70+ regions. In some locations, like the USA and Canada, they have servers in different cities / states so the most popular spots are not overloaded.

Speaking about the workload – you can see it below the servers name in the Servers screen. On mobile devices you can run a ping test and then choose the most optimal for your use.

We tested connection to both a server in the USA and in New Zealand. Of course, the speed for the farther server was lower, but pretty decent for web browsing and videos in a bit lower resolution.

KeepSolid VPN Extras

Except regular VPN service, KeepSolid offers Personal VPN Servers, static IP addresses and plans for teams. Why spend money on these?

Well, if you are an avid gamer, personal server is something you should consider buying. It will let you improve your gaming experience as you’ll be the only one to connect to it thus no interruptions or interference are expected. If the game is not available in the country of you residence, or you are willing to lower the latency between the gaming server and your ISP server, try this option.

Static IP is a solution for when you travel a lot and do not want to go through captcha Google services force you to complete. It might also work as a cheaper version of a personal VPN server for you. For instance, no other user will be within your network thus it’s an additional precaution against security threats.

You should opt in for VPN for teams and family if you are looking to protect your colleagues’ data or family members’ accounts from adversaries. It’s cheaper than buying VPNs for everyone separately. You will be an administrator of the account so billing will be on you.
